Here is my very quick sketch for this week’s theme of what object represents me. Everyone makes fun of my books and the fact that I tore out my RV couch and put a bookshelf in its place. A beautiful, cedar shelf I built myself, but who’s asking? Most of my storage is used for books, actually.
I have been pretty ill for a few days now, but I thought if I can stand through it for 5 hours Monday, I can sketch for 10 minutes today.
Of course I was exhausted and dizzy after such exertion. I felt physically terrible, messed up the lettering, and feel otherwise disappointed in the sketch, however, at one point I realized, this is what I love about graphite. It is all about the values. I’d rather be disappointed in the sketch I did than disappointed for not doing one.
I love watercolor because it is so much about the color. But graphite and charcoal are all about light and dark.
I’ve been itching to do a graphite drawing for a year+. I pushed it off because my paintings are just too important right now. I need to get most of the bad ones out of my system.
I could devote the rest of this sketchbook to graphite though. I loves me some ink, but I can’t fight the siren song of the pencil any longer.
Also, the bed. I need to sleep. I feel another 13 hour solid hours of sleep coming on.
How are your sketches going? Don’t forget you can email the sketches to me or use the hashtag #heyelisha on instagram, or even link in the comments to your own blog or website.
