A Little Bit of Everything

That’s what I’ve been up to.

There have been some major changes, most of which would be boring to anyone but me. There are some fun things I’ve been working on though. One, I have a new set up for speed painting videos and since I’m currently doing a 30 paintings in 30 days challenge, I am hoping to record several such videos in the near future. I still need to work on my lighting. Everyone says Samsung has amazing cameras, but I just haven’t figured it out. Luckily, the more I do, the better they will get.

I’ve shown work in multiple shows over the last couple of months, went down to Arkansas for the amazing Art on the Creeks show, and figured out the audio for an art history podcast I’ve been working on for almost a year.

I’m also president of an art guild and on the executive board for the organization that oversees it.

Oh, and I’ve been busy doing pet portrait commissions and traveling to see my two besties.

Life is good.

Here’s my first watercolor on paper speed painting video:

Meg, 2-4-09 (40 Minutes)

This is Meg. This model was a bad two weeks for me. I don’t have anything against her, but I hate drawing her. She is near impossible. Her coloring is difficult as well. Every time I sat down I happened to be in mostly shadow and her shadows tend to be grey. We were supposed to be doing one to two day drawings, but most of mine turned out so bad right away that I just kept starting over. Blah. But it is over and I am very happy with the next set of paintings.

First Still Life

This is my second water color painting. My first still life. I love the way it turned out too. It’s an African figurine, a plaster hand w/ broken fingers and a shell.

I love the shadow from the figure and the shell. At the beginning of the class that shell didn’t look like anything, but a blob and half way through the class it looked awful so I am glad it turned out okay.
